Phung Hung Mural Street was put into operation in 2018 and maintained by Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee in collaboration with the Korea Foundation and UN-Habitat, in order to preserve the value of the Hanoi Old Quarter.

However, the street previously faced signs of damage, with many paintings having lost their colour.

Beginning December 12, Hanoi authorities and a group of artists have been jointly restoring the paintings on the street.

According to artist Nguyen The Son, the paintings were repaired carefully, taking him as long as 2–3 days to finish the more complicated paintings.

The 200-metre street is home to 17 paintings, recalling the beauty of Hanoi in the past.

The police in Hang Ma Ward plan to frequently patrol the street to detect any violations in a timely manner.
