HCM City authorities have agreed the design of a pedestrian bridge over Saigon River in HCM City.
The design for the bridge
According to the HCM City People’s Committee, the approved design is the shape of coconut leaf, the symbol of the southern region, by the Vietnamese and Japanese consortium Chodai-Takashi Niwa Architects and Chodai Kisojiban.
All kinds of vehicles are banned on the bridge, except for those used for the disabled. No business activities are allowed to operate on the bridge.
The bridge will connect Bach Dang Park in District 1 and Thu Thiem New Urban Area in District 2.
The consortium also proposed the construction of a new parking lot located at the side of Thu Thiem New Urban area so that it can be convenient for people to travel on the bridge.
White has been selected as the major colour for the bridge as it is suitable for the combination of lights.
During the daytime, activities such as music shows, yoga practice and lighting performances will be held on the bridge.
HCM City is also building three other bridges to link the city centre with Thu Thiem Urban Area.
