Danang City People's Committee announced Wednesday that the Son Tra Night Market will continue operating until September 20.
Local authorities previously agreed to close the night market from July 1 to prepare for relocation.
In their earlier statement, the Son Tra District People's Committee said that they have asked traders to prepare for the relocation.
"We're looking for another site in our district, which will probably be near the headquarters of the district people's committee," the committee said.
Opened in 2018 near Danang's iconic Dragon Bridge as the first night market and pedestrian space in the central city, Son Tra Night Market has attracted thousands of visitors every night with nearly 200 stalls selling souvenirs, and food and specialities of Danang and the central region. The market runs between 6 pm until midnight.
However, congestion often occurs around the night market and the Dragon Bridge, especially during weekends or festivals.
Danang has recently opened Bach Dang walking street, the first of its kind in the central city.
The 1.2 km pedestrian street opens from 3 pm until midnight daily from the foot of the Dragon Bridge and APEC Park to Tran Thi Ly Bridge in Hai Chau District, providing tourists with night-time experiences.
Coming to the street, residents and tourists can enjoy many unique cultural, artistic, and street art activities, and diverse stalls for shopping, particularly food stalls.
