Electric sightseeing vehicles are said to have worsened traffic congestion, especially during weekends and festivals in Dalat City.
According to a report released by the department on November 13, two firms provide sightseeing services using electric vehicles in the city, Dalat City Tour Company with 50 cars and Tinh An Tourism Investment and Development Company with 25 cars. Many of these vehicles have been involved in traffic incidents.
"In the first ten months of 2024, 46 of these cars were reported to have broken traffic laws," the report said. "The most common violations included operating on wrong routes and picking up and dropping passengers in banned locations. Some vehicles lacked protective frames to ensure passenger safety. In addition, a passenger was injured in a traffic accident while travelling on an electric car during the period."
The department said Dalat currently faces a shortage of public parking lots, so electric sightseeing vehicles have worsened traffic congestion, especially during weekends and festivals.
"We've proposed to the city people's committee not to extend the use of electric sightseeing cars after the pilot period ends on December 31, 2024," the department said.
