According to the Hoan Kiem Ward People’s Committee, the suspension covers the walking streets around the lake as well as pedestrian routes in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

Authorities said the move is intended to focus resources on preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 term, while ensuring security, traffic safety, environmental hygiene and other conditions for the nationwide vote.
The pedestrian zone around Hoan Kiem Lake is scheduled to reopen at 7 pm on March 20.
