Ho Chi Minh City to stage fireworks at 16 sites for anniversary

Ho Chi Minh City will launch fireworks displays at 16 locations on July 2 to mark the 50th anniversary of the city being officially named after Ho Chi Minh.

The chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has approved plans for fireworks celebrations commemorating the 50th anniversary of Saigon-Gia Dinh officially adopting the name of President Ho Chi Minh on July 2, 1976.

According to the plan, fireworks will be launched from 16 locations across the city between 9 pm and 9.15 pm on July 2.

The programme will feature five high-altitude displays combined with low-altitude fireworks and 11 low-altitude displays.

The five major fireworks sites will be located at the entrance to the Saigon River Tunnel in An Khanh Ward, the New City Centre in Binh Duong Ward, Tam Thang Square in Vung Tau Ward, the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Site in An Nhon Tay Commune and the Can Gio Coastal Tourism Urban Area.

The 11 low-altitude fireworks sites will be located in Tan Nhut, Tang Nhon Phu, Tan My, Dat Do, Con Dao Special Zone, Ngai Giao, Dau Tieng, Minh Thanh, Lai Thieu, Phu My and the SAIGON MARINA IFC Tower in Sai Gon Ward.

The celebrations will mark five decades since Vietnam's largest city officially adopted the name of Ho Chi Minh, honouring the late revolutionary leader and founding president of modern Vietnam.
