HCM City to offer free bus and metro rides on election day

Ho Chi Minh City will waive bus and metro fares on March 15 to help voters travel to polling stations for elections to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 term.

The city’s Public Transport Management Centre, under the Department of Construction, said free rides would apply to 109 subsidised bus routes as well as several non-subsidised routes, including 67, 109, 171, 172, 60-1, 60-3, 60-5, 60-7 and 63-1.

Passengers will also be able to travel free of charge on Metro Line 1, running between Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien.

Operators had been instructed to ensure sufficient vehicles and staff and to enhance real-time monitoring through GPS and onboard cameras to maintain safe and uninterrupted services on election day.

Information on routes and operating schedules will be updated on the MultiGo mobile application to help voters plan their journeys.
