The capital ranked fourth in the Top 25 Best Destinations in the World, seventh in both the Top 25 Best Cultural Destinations and Top 25 Best Solo Travel Destinations, and 11th in the Top 25 Best Food Destinations.

Being listed across four major categories underscores Hanoi’s broad appeal, spanning heritage, cuisine and contemporary travel trends.

With its blend of ancient charm and modern development, Hanoi has long attracted visitors seeking to explore Vietnam’s history and culture. Through centuries of change and under various historical names, the thousand year old capital has preserved its heritage while evolving into a dynamic metropolis, Tripadvisor noted.

The city is home to landmarks such as the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university, the Old Quarter, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

Beyond its historic architecture, Hanoi features ancient villages, traditional craft communities, museums and cultural spaces that reflect its distinctive identity.

Cuisine remains a key attraction. From bustling street food stalls to contemporary restaurants, the capital’s culinary scene is praised for its refinement and emphasis on local ingredients, with dishes that tell stories of history and community.

In the 2025 edition of the awards, Tripadvisor ranked Hanoi second among the Top 25 Best Cultural Destinations, seventh among the Top 25 Best Destinations and 14th in the Top 25 All Time Favourite Destinations category.

The city has also gained international recognition elsewhere. It was named Asia’s Leading City Destination and Asia’s Leading City Break Destination at the World Travel Awards 2025, received a Sustainable Tourism Award at the Tourism Promotion Organisation for Global Cities Best Awards 2025, and was listed among Asia’s most beautiful autumn destinations by Time Out. The Telegraph included it among the world’s greatest cities, while Travel + Leisure named it one of 15 good value dream destinations.

In 2025, Hanoi welcomed more than 33.7 million visitors, up 20.87 per cent year on year. International arrivals exceeded 7.82 million, rising 22.76 per cent, while domestic visitors reached over 25.88 million, up 20.32 per cent. Total tourism revenue was estimated at more than VND 134.4 trillion (approximately USD 1.3 billion), an increase of 21.5 per cent compared with the previous year.
