Can Tho City's Department of Transport has proposed launching three river bus tourism routes.

Can Tho City's Department of Transport has proposed launching three river bus tourism routes.

The first river bus route will be 38 kilometres long, running across Hau River to link Ninh Kieu and Thot Not districts. It will also travel through Binh Thuy and O Mon districts.

The second route will be 21 kilometres long and span the Can Tho River. It will start in Ninh Kieu District and end at the centre of Phong Dien District.

The third will follow the Hau River for approximately 7.5 kilometres, connecting Ninh Kieu and Cai Rang districts.

Earlier, Nguyen Van Hieu, the Secretary of the Can Tho Nguyen Van Hieu Party Committee, surveyed the Hau, Binh Thuy, and Can Tho rivers.

Hieu suggested converting the functions of specific ports and piers that pose potential traffic conflicts with future road routes, shifting them mainly to serve tourism. He highlighted that tourism was the city's long-term economic development direction.

The Department of Transport is seeking approval from the municipal people's committee to hire consultants to draft a plan for developing inland waterway public passenger transport. The plan will serve as a basis for calling on investors for river bus projects.
