An ancient volcanic crater just 50 metres from the shore has become a popular attraction at Ba Lang An Cape in the central province of Quang Ngai.

Located about 30 kilometres from Quang Ngai City centre, Ba Lang An is known for its rugged coastline, basalt cliffs and volcanic rock formed when lava cooled on contact with seawater millions of years ago.

The crater, covering about 30 square metres, lies just offshore and is encircled by solidified lava. It now supports a small marine ecosystem of algae, fish and shellfish.

Nearby, a 36-metre lighthouse overlooking Sa Ky Port offers panoramic views of the cape and, on clear days, Ly Son Island, an offshore volcanic archipelago about 17 nautical miles from the mainland.

Visitors can swim, kayak and explore tidal pools among the volcanic rocks, while local fishing communities offer fresh seafood caught in nearby waters.
