Dozens of houses damaged in Quang Ngai whirlwind

Dozens of houses have been damaged and many trees uprooted after a whirlwind swept through the central province of Quang Ngai's Duc Pho Town on Tuesday night.

According to a report from local authorities, a house collapsed and 36 others had their roofs blown off when the incident occurred at 7 pm on November 12. 

A local resident, Pham Giang Nam, said that the whirlwind lasted only a minute but caused a lot of damage to houses and plants.

"My house roof was blown off," he said. "We've had to move to stay at our relatives' house while waiting for repairs."

Speaking to local media on Wednesday morning, the chairman of Pho Thuan Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Van Minh, said that they have sent rescue forces to help local people fix their houses and some public buildings in the area after the natural disaster.

"Due to the effects of a tropical depression, Quang Ngai has faced heavy rains and strong winds over the past two days," the official said. "The water on the Tra Cau has sharply risen, causing flooding to over 100 surrounding houses.
