Speaking at a fund-raising programme at the ministry's headquarters in Hanoi on September 10, Minister Dung cited figures from the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and reports from various localities, which all showed great losses in both human and property caused by natural disasters.
The minister then called for financial support from all staff members to help the people affected by the storm and ongoing floods and landslides. Part of the donations will be sent to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, which will distribute it to flood victims, while the rest will be brought directly by a visiting team from the ministry to the people in need.
As of Wednesday afternoon, at least 155 people died, and 141 remained missing due to Typhoon Yagi and its subsequent flash floods in northern Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
