Senior executives from the Republic of Korea’s top conglomerates are expected to visit Vietnam this month to explore new business opportunities, against a backdrop of Middle East instability and rising global trade protectionism.

The delegation is expected to include Samsung Electronics vice chairman and chief executive Lee Jae Yong, Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Euisun, LG Group chairman Koo Kwang Mo and SK Group chairman Chey Tae Won.

Vietnam remains a key global manufacturing hub, with Samsung Electronics producing nearly half of the world’s smartphones in the country, while LG Display and LG Innotek operate extensive production networks.

SK Innovation is also advancing a USD 2.3 billion energy project in Vietnam, including a gas-fired power plant and a liquefied natural gas terminal.

Analysts said Vietnam is increasingly seen as a strategic destination for South Korean firms seeking to diversify supply chains, mitigate geopolitical risks and deepen partnerships with local businesses.
