Dantri Newspaper and donors present 500 health insurance cards to students from low-income families in Dong Thap Province on September 5.

The event was organised at the Tan Phuoc Secondary School in the border district of Tan Hong, where many residents are poor and live on modest incomes from farming.

Speaking at the event, which was attended by some local officials and representatives from various agencies, Dantri Editor-in-Chief Pham Tuan Anh said that as a voice of the Ministry of Labour-Invalids and Social Affairs, Dantri has always regarded social security as an essential mission.

"We've been carrying out dozens of bridge and school projects in difficult areas nationwide, including the Mekong Delta region," Anh said. "And our new programme offering health insurance for disadvantaged students has also become a bridge to connect donors with children from low-income families. At this event, we're presenting 500 cards worth VND400 million to students in the two districts of Tan Hong and Hong Ngu, donated by many organisations and individuals, and Dantri readers."

Anh also shared that more cards will be given to disadvantaged students in other localities for the 2024-2025 school year.

"The value of each card is not so big, but we just want to share the economic burden with the parents ahead of the new school year," he said. "I want to sincerely thank all donors for supporting us in this programme, and I wish local teachers and students a new school year with good health and more achievements."

Among the students who received the health insurance cards was a ninth grader, Duong Minh Giang, who said this was a meaningful gift for him before the new school year.

"My parents are manual workers and earn a very modest income," Giang said. "They can't afford health insurance for me, so I'm grateful to get your support."

Bac Trung Nam Infrastructure Construction Joint Stock Company (100 cards), Van Lang University (100 cards), former war soldiers from Infantry Regiment 9 (200 cards), and Dantri's readers jointly donated the 500 cards to Dong Thap students.
