Many kidney failure patients at a hospital in Quang Binh Province who cannot return home for the Tet Lunar New Year have received care and Tet gifts from various donors and organisations.

Kidney failure patients at the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital receive Tet gifts from donors.

The patients who are mostly from other localities live in a cluster of rented rooms near the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi City.

As they have to depend on regular dialysis, they are not able to come home for Tet.

One of the patients, 32-year-old Le Ngoc Vuong, said that he could not go home as he had to go to the hospital three days a week for dialysis.

"I've been depending on dialysis for over 18 years and due to the condition, I have to stay near the hospital," Vuong said.

Vuong decorates a kumquat bonsai tree which is presented by donors.

Dang Ngoc Quy, 39, has also spent his seven Tets here.

"I used to feel depressed when having to stay here during Tet," Quy said. "But with time, I've seen other patients who share the same condition as my family."

Seeing the hardship that these people are facing, many individuals and organisations are visiting them and bringing Tet gifts and care.

Teacher Dang Thi Khanh Quyen from the Chu Van An Primary School took a group of students to visit the kidney patients, bringing Tet gifts including warm clothes and cakes.

"We only have 31 dialysis machines that have been operating at full capacity for over 10 years," Cuong said. "The new machines will help patients access better treatment."
