An 18-year old student in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang who faced the risk of death from leukaemia has recovered and achieved good study results.

Lam Tien Thang from the Nung ethnic minority was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was in Grade 7. He received chemotherapy at the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi. At that time, his mother also suffered from oesophagal cancer but she had to stop her treatment at Bach Mai Hospital to take care of him.

After an article about Thang’s condition was published on Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper, many donors provided hundreds of millions of VND.

During his time at hospital, Thang read a lot of IT books. He also studied IT on the internet by himself. He can now create websites and software on his own.

He won high prizes at the province’s IT contest for students in grades 9, 10 and 11 and the Microsoft Office Specialist competition held in Hanoi.
