New tropical depression forms in East Sea, more rain expected

A low pressure area strengthened into a tropical depression in the East Sea on July 19, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.



A new tropical depression in East Sea is moving north, causing rough seas and heavy rain


At 14:00, the tropical depression was located in the northern part of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago of Vietnam, with winds gusting 49kph near its centre.

In the next 48 hours, the depression is forecast to move north at a speed of 10-15kph. It will cause rough seas and heavy rain in the northern part of the East Sea.

Rain is anticipated to lash regions across the country on July 19-20, especially in the evening.

Early this week, a tropical depression battered the central coast of Vietnam, bringing heavy rain to the region. it quickly lost strength when it made landfall and moved further into Laos.
