Hanoi road project lags for more than a decade

A project to expand Nguyen Hoang Ton Street in Hanoi has remained stalled for 14 years, affecting local residents.

The project is aimed to expand the road section running from the headquarter of the Tay Ho District People’s Committee to Pham Van Dong Street. The section is the gateway connecting to Noi Bai International Airport.

Once expanded, the road will have a cross-section of up to 40 metres. The project will also incorporate drainage and lighting systems along with greenery.

The project requires the relocation and resettlement of hundreds of households, but as of now, there is no compensation or land clearance plan in place.

Several land plots along Nguyen Hoang Ton Street are left abandoned and wasted because of the unresolved situation.

Temporary houses line the street.

Currently, the two-lane road often faces traffic congestion during peak hours.
