Local authorities reported that the algal blooms were first seen in an area between 200 and 300 square metres and then quickly spread to 1,000 square metres in Mun Beach on Tho Chau Island.
"This is the first time such a phenomenon has occurred since the island district was set up 30 years ago," the report said.
No damage has been reported so far.
