Seven injured after coach plunges into Tam Dao ravine

Seven people were injured after a passenger coach lost its brakes and plunged into a ravine in Tam Dao on March 29, authorities said.

The accident occurred at about 1 pm on National Highway 2B in Tam Dao Commune, Vinh Phuc Province. The 29-seat vehicle, travelling downhill, was partially stopped by trees, preventing more serious casualties.

There were 29 people on board, including the driver. The injured were taken to Vinh Phuc General Hospital, while emergency services rescued passengers trapped inside the vehicle.

Fire and rescue police, together with local authorities and residents, carried out rescue operations and transported victims to hospital.

Authorities identified the driver as a 64-year-old man from Hanoi. Among the injured, three, including two women and a child, were reported to be in serious condition.

In April 2025, a coach driven by Nguyen Van Tu from Haiphong City plunged off Tam Dao pass, killing four people and injuring 13 others.

In another incident in October 2025, a couple on a motorbike lost control, crashed through a guardrail and fell more than 10 metres into a ravine before being taken to hospital.

Tam Dao, a popular tourist destination about 80 kilometres from Hanoi, sits at an altitude of more than 900 metres and has been named the world’s leading tourist town in recent years.

The 14-kilometre mountain road descending from the resort is known for its narrow lanes and sharp hairpin bends, particularly between km18 and km19 on National Highway 2B, a high-risk section where multiple accidents have occurred despite repeated warnings from local authorities.
