Nearly VND1 trillion for expanding access road to southern highway

HCM City will spend VND938.9 billion (USD38.32 million) on expanding a section of a road leading to the HCM City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Highway.

The 3.2-kilometre section running from the An Phu Intersection to Beltway No. 2 will be expanded from four to eight lanes. The expansion of An Phu Intersection is also underway, with completion slated by the end of 2025.

This connection road section is often overloaded and congested, which requires the expansion. Work on the project is scheduled to begin by late this year and be completed within one year.

The expanded road will help to boost the connectivity between HCM cIty and Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai Province as well as the Southeastern region.

The HCM City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Highway is 55 kilometres long and has four lanes. The VND20.6-trillion (USD981 million) project was put into operation in 2016.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the traffic volume on the expressway has been on the rise with an average annual growth rate of 11.12 percent.

Particularly, the section from HCM City to Long Thanh District in Dong Nai has been forecasted to serve around 72,254 vehicles daily by 2025, surpassing its designed capacity by 25 percent. So, HCM City has also planned to expand the HCM City-Long Thanh section in the future to ease the traffic pressure.
