This marks the first time a Vietnamese artwork has gone under the hammer at this distinguished auction house. The piece was previously showcased at Vu Cao Dam’s solo exhibition in London in 1960, hosted by the renowned Frost & Reed Gallery.

Vu Cao Dam (1908–2000) is widely regarded as one of Vietnam’s “four masters” of modern art, alongside Le Pho, Mai Trung Thu, and Le Thi Luu. Born in Hanoi, he was exposed to French culture early on through his father Vu Dinh Thi (1864–1930), a respected scholar with deep knowledge of French arts and literature.

Based in London, Sloane Street Auctions specialises in old master drawings and paintings, European furniture and decorative arts, as well as impressionist, modern and contemporary works.

The auction house also supports underprivileged children in Vietnam through its partnership with Facing the World, a UK-registered charity that has provided craniofacial surgery for Vietnamese children since 2007.
