A collection of over 700 musical works by composer Hoang Van has been officially inscribed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
Ngo Le Van, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Vietnamese delegation, emphasised that this is not only a great honour for composer Hoang Van and his family, but also a significant milestone affirming the position of Vietnamese music in the shared intellectual heritage of humanity.
The Hoang Van Collection was one of 74 nominations recommended for inscription, out of a total of 121 submissions considered at this year’s session. The inscription was approved with unanimous support.
According to Le Thi Hong Van, Secretary-General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, this remarkable achievement was the result of close and effective collaboration among relevant agencies.
“This is Vietnam’s first musical documentary heritage to be inscribed, further enriching the cultural legacy of our nation and contributing to the global treasury of human civilisation,” she noted.
The collection spans works composed between 1951 and 2010, blending European classical traditions with Vietnamese folk influences. It offers profound reflections on the nation's historical transformations and the evolving spirit of its people across generations.
Notably, the collection has been meticulously preserved and made highly accessible through a multilingual digital platform (https://hoangvan.org), helping to promote Vietnamese cultural values to an international audience.
