Vietnamese cueist falls short in Billiards World Cup final

Chiem Hong Thai was beaten 50-25 by Belgian legend Frederic Caudron in the final of the UMB 3 Cushion Billiards World Cup on May 24.

The final of the carom three cushion tournament in Ho Chi Minh City saw Caudron make a dominant start, racing into an 11-0 lead before extending the advantage to 13-5.

Chiem Hong Thai briefly reduced the gap to 12-20, but the decisive moment came during the 15th inning when Caudron produced a remarkable 15 point run.

The Belgian star surged from 23 points to 38, leaving the Vietnamese player trailing 38-15 before the interval.

After the break, Chiem Hong Thai struggled to recover as the large deficit proved impossible to close.

Caudron continued to dominate the remaining innings before sealing a 50-25 victory to claim the Ho Chi Minh City World Cup title.

Chiem Hong Thai finished runner up after an impressive run to the final.
