Singer My Tam uses lawsuit winnings for charity

Vietnamese singer My Tam has spent all the money she was awarded after winning her law suit against ring tone operators, as well as the money she raised before on charity. She has come back after a long trip to flooded areas in central Vietnam and Tay Nguyen.

Vietnamese singer My Tam has spent all the money she was awarded after winning her law suit against ring tone operators, as well as the money she raised before on charity. She has come back after a long trip to flooded areas in central Vietnam and the Central Highlands.

Tam has always played an active role in contributing to charity.  The My Tam Charity Foundation has donated more than VND1 billion (US$55,555) on this trip alone, among which each family received VND2 million (US$111).

Speaking with DTiNews, My Tam said, “My family living in Da Nang has been impacted by past storms but fortunately they don’t face with much loss. However many people in centre and Tay Nguyen are facing severe losses and damages. They have lost houses, friends and relatives. I want to help them out with this trip.”

After the trip she understands how hard life is for some people. She had a difficult but meaningful trip and hopes she was able to make a difference. She was honoured and felt happy with the warm welcome from the people she encountered. “I could not imagine the difficulty of life for these people until I came here. Danger, poverty, diseases and hardships are everywhere, especially after the storms,” added Tam.

"30 per cent of the money which I raised came from ring tone operators after I won the law suit. I hope they can overcome the difficulties with this small money,” shared Tam.

My Tam Charity Foundation was established on April 4, 2008 to help orphans, disabled and poor children to go to school. “It’s necessary to have more charity activities and others’ help,” said My Tam.
