Tung Duong is the first Vietnamese artist to receive recognition at the Music Awards Japan (MAJ).

Duong was awarded the International Special Award for his hit song "Tái sinh" (Rebirth), a win that marks a significant milestone for Vietnam’s music scene on the global stage.

Dressed in Vietnam’s traditional long dress Ao Dai, the artist expressed his pride during the award ceremony, saying he was honoured to represent Vietnam and deeply moved to be acknowledged at such a prestigious event.

As a tribute to his homeland, he surprised the audience by singing the chorus of "Một vòng Việt Nam" (Around Vietnam), drawing a prolonged round of applause from attendees.

“This award motivates me to continue creating quality music for my fans,” said Duong.

Duong first rose to fame after winning the Sao Mai Điểm Hẹn, a national music contest in 2004, hosted by Vietnam Television, and has since been recognised for his powerful vocals and distinctive artistic style. His achievement at MAJ not only reflects his personal success but also signifies Vietnam’s growing presence in the international music arena.

Organised by the Japan Culture and Entertainment Industry Promotion Association (CEIPA), the annual MAJ event celebrates musical excellence across Asia. It features 60 award categories, including Best Song Asia, Album of the Year, and Artist of the Year. Winners are selected by a global jury of 5,000 professionals from the international music industry.
