A six-year old boy in northern Hai Duong Province who suffers from a congenital blood disease is in the care of his impoverished grandparents after his parents died.
Hung Cuong is living with his grandparents in Hoach Trach Hamlet of Thai Hoc Commune in Binh Giang District.
Cuong's grandmother, Tran Thi Thinh, said that Cuong’s mother married a man in northern mountainous Lao Cai Province, but his father died in a traffic accident when the boy was just seven months old, forcing his mother to take him to her hometown in Hai Duong. She worked in a factory.
When Cuong was three years old, he was diagnosed with blood disease. His mother tried to earn enough to provide her son with medical treatment, neglecting her own health.
She as diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and recently died, leaving Cuong with his grandparents who are living under the poverty line.
Nhu Dinh Hoach, head of Hoach Trach Hamlet, said, “Cuong’s case is really miserable. Now he is living with his grandparents who are also ill and have no source of income. We’ve provided them with some help, but it’s really modest.”
Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, a doctor from the National Institute of Hematology, said, “Cuong’s condition is serious and he needs regular medical treatment at hospital.
