Vu's father, Ly A Lu, 34, recalled that the incident occurred on March 28. While working in the fields, he and his wife received the news that their son had fallen into a pot of hot pig feed at home. When rushing back home and taking off his son's clothes, Lu was devastated to see Vu's skin peel away with the clothes.
The couple sought to borrow VND2 million from their neighbours and hired a motorbike taxi to bring Vu to the local health centre before sending him to Dien Bien General Hospital.

During the two-day stay at the hospital, the boy's condition did not improve. Doctors there arranged a charity ambulance to help move him to the National Institute of Burns.
The couple are in poor health, illiterate, and can speak little Vietnamese. Meanwhile, they have up to five children. Now, they cannot afford the treatment for their son.
Every day, the father lives on charity meals at the hospital.
Doctor Tran Thi Diu Hien from the National Institute of Burns said that Vu's condition is serious and that treatment takes time and is costly. She hoped that donors would assist him.
