Readers of DTiNews donated nearly VND500 million (USD23,800) to a man and his newborn baby after a recent traffic accident which killed his wife.
The accident occurred in An Giang Province on October 25 while Nguyen Van Nam was taking his wife to hospital by motorbike to give birth.
One of Nam's legs had to be amputated
Reportedly a cement truck came out of nowhere, hitting the back of his bike. Nam was thrown to the road and his foot was run over by the truck. "I tried to crawl to my wife. Half of her body was run over, but she kept looking and pointing to the side, where our baby was lying on the street," he said.
Nam's wife died almost immediately and Nam's leg was amputated. One leg of his newborn son was also amputated.

The baby loses one leg
After days struggling in critical condition, the newborn baby has been discharged from hospital. His health condition is improving. Meanwhile, doctors said that in two days, Nam can be fitted with a prosthetic leg.
