Dantri/DTiNews has just given VND123 million (USD5,860) to a sickly deprived family of four in Thanh Hoa Province.
The donations were sourced from the newspaper’s readers.
The mother, Le Thi Tuyen, visited the paper’s Hanoi office to receive the VND 123,830,000.
Tuyen said her youngest child, Le Thi Anh Thu, who has been struggling with leukaemia for two years, died shortly after the article was published.
But the money will help save her husband who is waiting for heart surgery, their eldest child who suffers from hepatitis B, their second child that has aemorrhoids and Tuyen also has hepatitis B.
"'I had to use the house as collateral for loans to get medical treatment for my husband and my youngest child," Tuyen said. "This money will help save us at this moment."
Tuyen expressed her gratitude for the generosity of the readers and those who had offered best wishes to her family.
