 Hang and Hien receive donation

Cao Thi Hang, aged nine, and Cao Thi Thu Hien, eight, lost their father in 2008 in a work accident, and their mother died in June this year after a long illness.

Local authorities helped them keep their home, but they had debts of nearly VND10m.

Relatives were too poor to care for them, and sometimes the sisters had to survive on a shared pack of instant noodle for lunch.

"If it's raining and we didn't have anything in the house, we eat instant noodle," Hang said. "We get hungry at night, but we don't know what else to do."

Two sisters who wish to continue studying

On December 24, representatives of DTiNews, the director of Quang Binh Fund for Children, Le Quang Sy, and the chairman of Phu Dinh Commune People's Commitee, Nguyen Van Hoi, delivered VND70,345,000 donated by readers to the sisters.

Cao Van Thoan, the sisters' uncle, said that after their story was published, many people called and donated nearly VND25m.

"We want to express our gratitude to all the kind people who have helped the two sisters," he said.

The chairman of Phu Dinh Commune People's Commitee, Nguyen Van Hoi, also gave his gratitude.

"This is such a respectful and humane act," Hoi said. "Now both of them can go to school and live a more stable life. I hope the press and kind people would continue to pay attention to poor areas."
