A single mother and her 14-year-old child in Bac Giang Province are running out of hope as they lose their fight against congenital heart disease.
Nguyen Thi Huong and her daughter suffer from genetic heart conditions
Nguyen Thi Huong said, "My family has genetic heart conditions. Three out of my four siblings have heart disease, and two of them have died.
"Me and my daughter have heart disease too," Huong said. "Doctors said we should have surgeries or else we'll die soon."
Huong's daughter was diagnosed with heart conditions since birth. She has other physical conditions too, and only has one kidney. Huong borrowed to pay for heart surgery for her daughter in 2013, but she cold not afford to treat her other illnesses.

"I'm alright, but if anything happens to my daughter, I don't want to live on," she said.
Duong Xuan Phuong, deputy head of Dai Hoa Commune, said, "We try to help them with supporting policies but it's not enough."
