A poor couple of the J'Rai ethnic minority people in Gia Lai are calling for help for their three-year-old daughter, who was born with a cleft palate and a rare skin condition.
Hueo was born with cleft palate
Hueo was born with cleft palate and excessive skin grown all over her body. Her parents cannot afford to take her to hospital.
She is the second child of Ro Mah Guik, 29, and Ro Mah Xuin, 30, who live in Ia Grai District.
Traditionally, J’rai people considered children born with deformities to be back luck for the whole village and they were killed.
Hueo faces discrimination from other villagers for her strange appearance, which now includes hair growth over her body.
The excessive skin grown all over the girl's body
Guik said his daughter is often sick and has trouble breathing. He sometimes uses medicines from a nearby drugstore, but cannot afford to take her to hospital. He and his wife used to farm rubber to make extra money, but prices dropped, adding to their financial problems.
Siu Tin, secretary of Ia Chia Commune, said that Guik’s family is very poor and needed community support.
