DTiNews gave gifts to 150 disabled children affected by agent orange, in central Danang City on the occasion of the Vietnamese Day for People with Disabilities, April 18.

Children receive gifts

On the morning of April 17, representatives of DTiNews and NutiFood, sponsor of the prgramme, gave over 600 milk boxes to the children. Nguyen Thị Hien, President of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange in Danang, said the city is home to over 5,000 victims of agent orange. The association is raising 150 children at three centres in Lien Chieu, Hai Chau and Thanh Khe districts.

Because they are not supported by the government, Hien has to call on various individuals and organisations for donations in order to raise funds for the children to go to classes, take vocational courses and rehabilitation so they can integrate into their communities.

Hien said, "Any help for the children is valuable because most of them are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Without the community's help, they'll have to face even more hardship."

She also expressed gratitude to the sponsor, NutiFood, and hoped to get more attention and support from society at large. The Association of Victims of Agent Orange also gave seven wheelchairs to disabled children who were in the most difficult circumstances.
