DTiNews readers have raised more than VND68m for a single mother and her 14-year-old daughter in Bac Giang Province to help them in their battle with congenital heart disease.
Huong receives donation
Thanks to the help from donors, Nguyen Thi Huong and her daughter are in Hanoi's Viet-Duc Hospital. Huong's heart surgery begins July 21. Her daughter will undergo surgery for spinal curvature when her health gets better.
"We will replace two heart valves and fix another one. This is a serious case so Huong will have a long recovery period and the cost is expensive," said Nguyen Xuan Vien from Viet-Duc Hospital.
The surgery alone is estimated to cost at least VND80m.
Huong said after the story was published, she received VND27m directly from many readers and another VND68.9m came from other DTiNews readers.
"We are lucky to be helped by so many kind people. You saved us," Huong said.

Nguyen Thi Huong's family has a genetic heart condition. Three of her four siblings were born with heart disease, and two have died.
Doctors said if Huong and her daughter did not have surgeries, they would die soon. Huong borrowed to pay for heart surgery for her daughter in 2013, but she cold not afford to treat her other illnesses.
