Doctors at Thanh Hoa Province Paediatric Hospital are helping to treat a new-born baby girl with congenital heart disease who was abandoned by her parents. The doctors hope the girl will find a new family soon.
Newborn girl abandoned in hospital
On May 17, a little girl was found at the General Hospital of Thach Thanh District with intact umbilical cord. Her health was a bit weak from premature birth. She has been taken care of by the hospital staff and has been transferred to Thanh Hoa Paediatric Hospital.
Dr. Le Xuan Trung, head of Newborn Intensive Care Unit, said, "When we received her, she was suffering from respiratory failure, heart disease, sepsis and her skin had a yellow colour. She was born before 32 weeks and weighed 1.6kg. She must be four weeks old before we can do anything about her heart disease. But it's lucky that the operation won't be complicated."
The hospital staff hopes she finds a new family
Trung went on to say that the treatment cost would be cover by the girl's health insurance. Meanwhile the doctors are donating milk and other necessities for the girl.
When the girl is healthier she will be transferred to the orphanage.
"It's sad that, I think, her mother did not have the confidence to raise her. When her health gets better and all the dangers have passed, what'll happen to her?" Trung said.
