The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)’s website has picked out some of the top places in Asia for wild and wonderful Valentine's Day traditions, with Vietnam featured in the list.

In Vietnam, Valentine's Day is particularly popular among young couples who come together to exchange chocolates, flowers, and heartfelt gifts, the national broadcaster of Australia wrote.

Much like in Japan and the Republic of Korea, several regions also celebrate White Day with gifts given by men one month later, ABC Australia added.

In Japan, Valentine's Day is all about women giving chocolates to men, whilst the Republic of Korea celebrates in a similar way to Japan, but instead takes the Valentine's celebrations a step further with three dedicated days.

On February 14, women give chocolates to men. On White Day, men reciprocate with gifts, then, for those who are still single, on April 14 Black Day takes place as single people eat black bean noodles, known as jjajangmyeon, with friends.

According to the Australian media outlet, many Chinese couples celebrate Valentine's Day with gifts and flowers, the country's traditional Qixi Festival, which is held on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, is often seen as the true "Chinese Valentine's Day".

In Malaysia, on this day, single women throw mandarins into rivers in the hope of finding true love.

Elsewhere, no country does Valentine's Day quite like the Philippines, where mass weddings are a major tradition, the website shared.
