Vietnamese citizens are now using dedicated immigration lanes at Terminal 2 of Noi Bai International Airport after a new passenger flow system came into effect on August 3.
Foreign travellers, priority passengers and transit travellers have also been assigned separate immigration lanes, a measure aimed at easing congestion and shortening processing times.
The system follows a model adopted at many international airports to streamline immigration procedures and improve passenger flow.
According to representatives of Noi Bai International Airport, the new arrangement makes it easier for Vietnamese citizens to identify the correct immigration area, reduces waiting times during peak periods and improves the efficiency of border control operations. Reorganising passenger flows is also expected to create a smoother immigration process and enhance the travel experience for both domestic and international passengers.
Previously, multiple categories of travellers shared the same queue. If a single passenger encountered document issues or required additional identity checks, everyone behind them had to wait, reducing the overall efficiency of immigration processing.
Several travellers said that since the new system was introduced, immigration procedures typically take only five to 10 minutes, or even less during quieter periods. Under the previous arrangement, when Vietnamese and foreign passport holders queued together, arrival processing could take anywhere from 30 minutes to nearly an hour.
Vietnamese citizens holding biometric passports can also use the airport's automated immigration gates, with staff available to provide assistance when needed.
Separately, from August 3, Noi Bai International Airport introduced a new traffic management system at both its domestic Terminal 1 and international Terminal 2. Different categories of vehicles are now assigned designated areas for picking up and dropping off passengers in an effort to improve traffic flow around the airport.
