Stork migration season at Lang Co Bay

Thousands of stocks are taking shelter at the Lap An lagoon area of Lang Co Bay in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, creating a breathtaking picture.

Groups of storks gracefully fly above the water's surface, perching on the wooden stakes anchored in the lagoon by local residents for oyster farming as well as on watchtowers and throughout forests on Bach Ma Mountain.

A local resident said that annually when the flood season comes, flocks of storks migrate to the thickets and wetlands at Lang Co Bay which is recognised as among the most beautiful bays in the world, to seek shelter.

This is also the peak time for stork hunting.

In the field near Lang Co Bay in Phu Loc District, numerous foam decoy storks are placed to lure real ones.

Hoang Trong Huy, vice chairman of the Lang Co Town People’s Committee, said that the locality has co-operated with concerned agencies to address the stork hunting activities, punishing many violators. However, the problem still persists.

Le Ngoc Tuan, head of the Thua Thien-Hue Forest Protection Board, stated that the agency has instructed Phu Loc District’s Forest Protection Unit to quickly remove traps and tighten patrols to timely detect violations.
