Phong Nha-Ke Bang sinkhole zipline opens

A travel company has introduced a zipline service for thrill-seekers to explore a sinkhole within the Hung Thoong cave system in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in the central province of Quang Binh.

The zipline service for the Nightmare Sinkhole is part of the Hung Thoong Cave exploration tour which costs around VND12 million (USD470) per person. Tourists need to meet specific health requirements for the zipline experience.

The zipline system features three stainless steel cables conforming to international standards, each capable of bearing up to 7 tonnes. The two main cables connect to the safety harness through a high-speed pulley system, while the third cable serves as a backup for added security.

This is the first zipline system in Vietnam to pass through a natural sinkhole.

The sinkhole is 250 metres deep and accommodates a mysterious underground river. The only way to reach the Nightmare Sinkhole is by ziplining into it.

In the early days of exploration, adventurers faced numerous challenges due to the rugged terrain, so they called it the Nightmare Sinkhole. To date, only a few explorers have reached the bottom of the sinkhole.
