MUSIC & PERFORMANCES

Hanoi-Calligraphy festival

What's on January 20-26, 2025 - 1

Jan 23-Feb 9, 8 am-10 pm,

The Temple of Literature

Featuring 47 calligraphers, all of whom are members of calligraphic clubs and selected from a writing competition, perform the writing.

Along with the calligraphy writing activities, three exhibitions will also get underway, including one to showcase nearly 100 art works produced by famous scholars such as King Le Thanh Tong, teacher Chu Van An, national hero Nguyen Trai, and poet Nguyen Du to honour the tradition of learning and to show respect for teachers.

Furthermore, 50 photographs selected from Vietnam Heritage Photo Awards will be exhibited, to introduce Vietnam’s landscapes and the daily lives of local people.

An exhibition featuring 77 paintings of 75 Vietnamese painters living in Vietnam and abroad will be held. 

An exhibition of traditional crafts such as pottery, paper making, and embroidery will also be held on this occasion.

Various art performances including chèo (traditional operetta), quan họ (duet singing), and ca trù (ceremonial singing), and folk games will be introduced at the event.

Featuring a series of events to celebrate the 2025 Lunar New Year

Some of the special events include the Ocean International Lantern Festival – Eastern Light, the Spring Fair 2025, the Oriental Light Festival 2025, the Ocean Jam street music festival, the Sweet Love Festival, the Eastern Costume Festival, among others.

Exploring the Snake, the sixth animal in the Vietnamese zodiac, symbolizing wisdom, adaptability, and renewal. It features 77 unique illustrative artworks by 76 Vietnamese artists worldwide, inspired by folklore, legends, customs, and individual creative styles.

An exhibition featuring almost 50 works by 3 artists: Nguyễn Quốc Huy, Trần Nam Tước and HuongColor, just in time before the upcoming Tet Lunar New Year Festival.

From ceramics and banana paper to acrylic, oil on canvas, and other diverse creative techniques, Thẩm / Thấu, Thưởng allows space for the intersection between contemporary art and heritage. The exhibition portrays the Tet holiday in various dimensions – warm and sacred through the sounds, images and colours of the Vietnamese people. The audience will immerse themselves in the essence of Vietnamese Tết through a variety of materials and tones, evoking meaningful reflections and beautiful memories of this traditional celebration.

On the opening night, VietnamColor and Gallery Medium will co-organize an auction for the silk painting ‘Chạng vạng #5’ (Heure Bleue #5) by artist Huong Color. The work reflects the interaction between human and nature, the majestic beings in the deep sea alongside the fragile existence of humanity. All proceeds will be donated to the Sống Foundation to support activities promoting education for children in areas affected by natural disasters and climate change, through the Tay cộng Tay – Handson Scholarship Fund under the River Oi program. The auction runs until 23rd January 2025.

A solo exhibition of new work by Tuan Andrew Nguyen. Spanning four exhibition rooms, this experimental body of work focuses on sculptural installations that bring together some of Nguyen’s ongoing research around historical memory, material memory, and strategies of resistance often related to how memory is retained.

Featuring a variety of art exhibitions and musical performances.

There is an exhibition of historical relics and items from the Central Highlands, including traditional farming tools, musical instruments, jewellery, and objects used in rituals.
