The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has reported its first Zika virus infection.
A 19-year-old man in Tan Thanh District’s Phu My Town was tested to be positive after exhibiting high fever and joint pains.
Anti-mosquito chemical sprayed in HCM City for Zika virus prevention
The man said he visited Tan Binh District in HCM City to visit his girlfriend two weeks previously. After that, he suffered from the symptoms and was taken to HCM City Tropical Diseases Hospital for treatment.
After being informed by the hospital about the case, Tan Thanh District’s Preventive Medicine Centre has sprayed anti-mosquito chemicals in local areas.
By November 11, HCM City had registered 34 Zika cases.
Besides HCM City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the cases have occurred in Dak Lak, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Long An.
On October 30, the department concluded that a four-month-old baby in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak born with a shrunken head had been infected by his mother with the Zika virus during her pregnancy.
