The Ministry of Transport has announced plans to begin work on eight key traffic projects between now and early next January.
Plans to upgrade bridges and roads in 50 cities and provinces have been earmarked VND9.20 trillion (USD402 million).
The second project is the VND5.33 trillion (USD233 million) construction of a 147-kilometre road to link the northern mountainous provinces of Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Yen Bai with Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway.
The ministry will kick off a VND2.22-trillion project to build a passage for large vessels on the Hau River and upgrade Quan Chanh Bo Canal in Tra Vinh Province; a VND2.1-trillion project to construct a road connecting National Highway 91 and Long Xuyen City Bypass; a VND1.72 trillion road to connect Belt Road 3 in Ca Mau Province and the southern coastal road.
Other projects include the upgrade of the National Highway 1A section running from Nga Bay Town to Chau Thanh District in Soc Trang Province, costing VND1.68 trillion and the restoration of deteriorating bridges on many national highways nationwide.
The Ministry of Transport previously requested the establishment of a special working group to boost the disbursement of public investment capital for projects in the transport sector.
Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The urged agencies and units under the ministry, heads of investors and project management boards to determine that accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital was one of the key political tasks of this year to promote economic growth and achieve the highest socio-economic development goals in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
