The 15-kg monkey, scientifically known as Macaca mulatta and commonly called the rhesus macaque or golden monkey in Vietnam, is classified as a Group IIB protected species under Vietnamese wildlife protection regulations.

Authorities said the animal had repeatedly entered a resident’s property in Bac Lieu Ward in recent weeks, causing disturbances and raising safety concerns.
The resident, identified as Do Duy Dieu, trapped the monkey before reporting the case to forestry officials and voluntarily handing it over for release into the wild.
After completing the necessary procedures, forestry officers transported and released the macaque into U Minh Ha National Park, considered suitable habitat for wild animals.
Authorities said growing public awareness had encouraged more residents to voluntarily hand over rare wild animals, supporting conservation efforts.
