As many as 3,060 work-related accidents occurred nationwide in the first six months of this year, killing 279 and seriously injuring 671, says the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MOLISA).
According to MOLISA’s recent report, the number of fatalities was up 2.2 percent against the same period last year, and serious injuries increased by 23.3 percent.
Provinces and cities with a large number of industrial zones and mines, such as Hanoi, HCM City, Binh Duong, Quang Ninh, Ha Tinh, and Dong Nai recorded the highest rate of accidents.
Mining and construction work were the two most dangerous jobs, accounting for 15.8 percent of the accidents.
Inadequate work safety training, insecure equipment, and insufficient work safety regulations were the main causes of accidents, said MOLISA.
