Tran Thi Thuy Dung, a resident of Rach Gia, said she was frightened when she saw the phenomenon while heading to the pier to return to the mainland, fearing ferry services might be suspended if the weather worsened.
According to the An Giang Hydro-Meteorological Station, a convective cloud mass moving from the southwest to the northeast over the waters off Phu Quoc triggered heavy rain and created a high risk of strong winds and whirlwinds across the area.
A waterspout is a short-lived, intense whirlwind that forms beneath thunderclouds. The station has warned residents and vessels to stay alert for severe weather events, including whirlwinds and lightning.
