Vietnam’s top leader begins state visit to China

Vietnam’s top leader To Lam arrived in Beijing on April 14, marking the start of a state visit aimed at deepening strategic ties between Vietnam and China.

A special aircraft carrying To Lam and his spouse, along with a high level Vietnamese delegation, landed at Beijing International Airport at 9.18 am local time.

The visit, scheduled from April 14 to 17, is being made at the invitation of Xi Jinping and his spouse.

Welcoming the delegation at the airport were senior Chinese officials, including Yin Li, as well as representatives from both countries’ diplomatic missions and members of the Vietnamese community and students in China.

Yin Li greeted To Lam at the foot of the aircraft stairs before the Vietnamese leader proceeded along a red carpet, shaking hands with Chinese and Vietnamese officials and waving to the crowd.

The state visit comes at a time when both countries are entering new phases of development. Vietnam is moving forward following the successful conclusion of its 14th National Party Congress, while China has begun implementing its 15th five year socio economic development plan.

The trip is expected to provide an important opportunity to elevate strategic alignment and set a new stage for relations between the two parties and countries. Senior leaders are set to discuss new directions and breakthroughs in cooperation across trade, investment, tourism, supply chains, manufacturing, education and training, as well as science and technology, in pursuit of their respective development goals.
