The association continues to reaffirm its vision of green growth, circular economy, and innovation as the foundations for sustainable competitiveness.
A 35-year journey of growth and integration
Established when Vietnam’s plastics industry was still in its infancy, the VPA has played a crucial role in connecting businesses, promoting knowledge sharing, and facilitating technology transfer. Today, the industry contributes between 6 and 7 per cent of Vietnam’s total industrial output, provides employment for over 250,000 workers, and exports products to nearly 190 countries and territories.
Beyond the impressive figures lies a deeper transformation in mindset, from rapid, quantity-driven expansion to a new focus on quality, sustainability, and value creation. Enterprises are increasingly investing in automation, eco-design, recycling technologies, and green materials, aligning their operations with ESG principles and international standards.

From aspiration to action
The highlight of the VPA’s 35th anniversary celebration was the panel discussion “Vietnam’s Plastics Industry in the Era of National Rise”, which gathered policymakers, economists, and business leaders to discuss strategies for the next phase of growth.
Dinh Duc Thang, Chairman of the VPA, said: “We are entering a new phase where global green standards and environmental requirements are becoming increasingly stringent. This is not a challenge but an opportunity for transformation, to advance technology, promote circularity, and enhance sustainable competitiveness.”
As VPA Chairman for the 2023–2028 term and concurrently Chairman of Stavian Group, a large-scale multinational corporation active in industrial production, high technology, industrial infrastructure, energy transition, and trading and investment, Thang brings a strategic perspective that bridges industry and policy.
He has set five priorities for the coming phase: pursuing sustainable, quality-driven growth; accelerating eco-design and circular economy initiatives; improving certification and traceability systems; and strengthening partnerships between government, enterprises, academia, and international organisations.
