A Vietnamese fishing boat sank after a collision with an unidentified vessel near the Paracel Islands, leaving 34 fishermen floating at sea for hours.

Rescue ship SAR 412 to support the transport of the fishermen ashore.
The Quang Ngai-based fishing boat was hit while fishing near the Paracel Islands at around 11pm on May 3.
The boat sank a few minutes after being hit, which meant all of its 34 fishermen had to jump into the sea. However, due to the darkness, the fishermen couldn’t clearly see the number and flag of the vessel which attacked them.
Luckily, some hours later, after receiving their emergency signal to call for help, another boat from near the area rescued the fishermen.
Speaking with DtiNews, Bui Tan Nguyen, director of Vietnam’s Zone II Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, said that the centre had sent rescue ship SAR 412 to support the transport of the fishermen ashore.
The fishermen are expected to bring to the mainland this afternoon, May 5.
