Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training said the national team achieved a perfect medal record at the 2026 Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO), held in South Korea from May 17-25 with the participation of 209 contestants from 27 countries and territories.

The APhO is regarded as one of the region’s most competitive academic contests, bringing together leading Physics teams from across Asia and the Pacific.

This year’s competition consisted of two official examination days, including a five-hour theoretical test and a five-hour experimental test. Organisers said the exam questions had a high level of differentiation, requiring contestants to demonstrate strong theoretical knowledge, mathematical modelling skills and the ability to apply Physics concepts to practical situations.

According to the final medal standings, Vietnam ranked among the top eight performing delegations alongside South Korea, China, Taiwan (China), Russia, Indonesia, Thailand and Hong Kong (China).

Vietnam was also one of only five teams whose entire delegation received medals, together with South Korea, China, Taiwan (China) and Russia.

Notably, five of the eight Vietnamese contestants were in Grade 11, a result seen as promising for the 2026 International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) and for future APhO and IPhO competitions in 2027.

The closing ceremony and medal presentation for APhO 2026 were scheduled to take place on May 24 in Busan, South Korea.
